Wishes of Love (Poem)

Wishes of Love

I wish you warmth when you are chilled

And a cool drink to quench your yearning.

I wish you crisp walks through October woods

And a warm fire at the end of your journeying.

I wish you to feel the love in one’s eyes

As they gaze up into yours, burning.

And when you are old, a hand to hold

With someone who keeps your heart learning. 

I wish you the laughter that takes you to heights

And soft, tender touches on warm summer nights.

I wish you all of these things and much more,

With hope for a life filled with happy new schemes; 

And the knowledge that love can open all doors

Even though it’s not me sharing your dreams.
